Summer Camps for teens who stammer.

For July/August 2001, we're hoping to arrange a summer camp for teenagers who stammer. It'll be an activity week, with sports and entertainment interspersed with work on speech. If you're interested, we'd really liks to hear from you.

ISLA's Speech and Language Therapy Services

With its team of highly qualified and experienced clinicians, ISLA’s Edinburgh Speech and Hearing Clinics can offer a broad range of services for children and adults with communication needs.

Children

Speech and language develop very rapidly during early childhood. Since communication involves an array of very complex skills, it’s not surprising that things sometimes go wrong.

Problems in communication can affect a child’s education, social development and behaviour. In some cases, the problem will go away in time. In other cases, the child may need a little help.

Many children have communication problems caused by other conditions which they are born with or which develop in childhood.

Our team has expertise in dealing with a wide range of issues, including Dyslexia, Stammering, Speech Sound problems (lisp, for example), Selective Mutism, Autism and Asperger Syndrome, Cleft Palate, Hearing Impairment, Down Syndrome and many others.

If you are worried about your child’s speech or language development, about their hearing or about their reading skills as they begin school, then give us a call on 0845 299 6303.

An informal chat with a member of our clinical team may be enough to reassure you.
If need be, we can arrange an appointment with you and your child. Then we can make a full assessment of your child’s communication skills, provide a written report and  then suggest a carefully tailored programme of activity to address any issues.

Dyslexia? Isn't that all about reading?

Well, not really. In fact, Speech and Language Therapists are ideally placed to help with cases of dyslexia. Much of the problem is connected to the way we process the sounds of speech.
